Vincent Vincke

Vincent Vincke is an FWO postdoctoral fellow at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). His research, centred on Wittgenstein, lies at the intersection of metaethics, aesthetics, and the philosophy of mathematics and modality. He obtained his doctorate in 2024 as an FWO PhD fellow at what was then the Centre for Logic and Philosophy of Science (CLPS) of the VUB, now the Centre Leo Apostel (CLEA). The dissertation examined the relationship between Wittgenstein’s ethical thought and his philosophy of mathematics. His postdoctoral project, ‘Towards an Ethical Normativism: Pursuing Wittgenstein’s Ethics–Mathematics Analogy’ (2026–2029), takes that inquiry further, developing the view that ethical propositions, like mathematical ones on Wittgenstein’s account, function as grammatical norms. Alongside this project, he is preparing a French translation of Wittgenstein’s Bemerkungen über die Grundlagen der Mathematik. At the VUB, he teaches courses on ontology and on the philosophy of the Enlightenment. Beyond the university, he is head of education at the Instituut voor Filosofische en Sociaalwetenschappelijke Educatie (Ifese), which brings academic philosophy and social science to a wider public through study days, seminars, lectures and webinars.
