Biography
I research the history and philosophy of mathematics, with a particular focus on how social forces influence mathematical progress. My thesis explores the extent to which the early development of set theory, and its subsequent success at the conclusion of the ensuing ‘foundational crisis’, can be put down to its mathematical superiority over its rivals alone.
I took my undergraduate and master’s degrees at the universities of Bristol and the London School of Economics. My other academic interests include the ways historical and anthropological theories and evidence are used in philosophy, and contemporary philosophical accounts of set theoretic justification.
