Andrew Morris
Biography
I am a FWO-funded PhD student working on a project in the history and philosophy of science entitled John Smeaton's practical methodology: The influence of waterwheel efficiency on the vis viva controversy, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Steffen Ducheyne.
This project focuses on the English engineer John Smeaton, who carried out experiments on model waterwheels in the second half of the eighteenth century. The emphasis of my research will be on methodology and scientific practice during the industrial enlightenment.
I have a background in the history of philosophy and the philosophy of science. Before beginning my doctoral research I studied philosophy at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Master, 2014), KU Leuven (MA, 2011) and the University of Warwick (BA, 2006).
